Sir Peter George Snell was a renowned New Zealand middle-distance runner who had a remarkable career from 1960 to 1965. He made history by winning three Olympic gold medals, including the 800 and 1500 meters at the same Olympics in 1964. With coach Arthur Lydiard’s guidance, Snell set numerous world records and received recognitions such as being named New Zealand’s “Sports Champion of the Century” and being inducted into the International Association of Athletics Federations Hall of Fame in 2012.
