Sergey Rostislavovich Fokichev is a former Russian speed skater who achieved notable success during his career. He represented the USSR at the 1984 Olympics in Sarajevo, winning the 500 m event. Fokichev was the first speedskater to break the 36-second barrier on the 500 meter outside of the fastest track at the time. He continued his success by winning both 500 m races at the World Sprint Championships. Fokichev also competed in the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, where he finished fourth in the 500 m event. He received the Order of the Badge of Honor in 1984 for his accomplishments.
