She clinched medals at both the Dutch Allround Championships and the World Allround Championships. Geijssen achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first Dutch Olympic Champion in speed skating at the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble, where she also set a new Olympic record in the 1,000 m event. She remained active in competition for a few additional years before retiring in 1971.
