James Howard Snook was a successful American athlete and veterinarian. He won a Gold Medal in the Men’s 30 metre team military pistol event at the 1920 Olympics as a member of the U.S. Olympic Pistol Team. He later became the head of the Department of Veterinary Medicine at Ohio State University and created the snook hook, a surgical instrument that is still in use today. Additionally, Snook was a founding member of the Alpha Psi veterinary fraternity, demonstrating his commitment to the field of veterinary medicine.
