Ole Christensen Rømer, a Danish astronomer, made significant contributions in the field of physics. In 1676 at the Royal Observatory in Paris, he proved that light moves at a finite speed through his study of Jupiter’s moon Io. Rømer is also credited with inventing the modern thermometer and establishing fixed temperature measuring points. His calculation of the speed of light based on its travel time from the Sun to Earth greatly enhanced the scientific comprehension of light’s characteristics.
