Sir Peter James Blake KBE was a highly accomplished New Zealand yachtsman celebrated for his exceptional sailing achievements. He won the Whitbread Round the World Race in 1989-1990, held the Jules Verne Trophy from 1994 to 1997, and set the around-the-world sailing record. He also led New Zealand to consecutive America’s Cup victories. Tragically, Blake was killed by pirates during an environmental monitoring expedition on the Amazon River.
