Poon Lim, a Chinese seafarer, showcased exceptional survival skills during World War II. As the Second Mess Steward on SS Benlomond, he survived 133 days alone in the South Atlantic after the ship was sunk by a German submarine. Lim sustained himself on a small wooden raft by fishing, hunting seabirds, and collecting rainwater. His resilience and resourcefulness ultimately led to his rescue by Brazilian fishermen. In recognition of his bravery, Lim was honored with the British Empire Medal by King George VI. He later relocated to the United States.
