Minnie Riperton, an American soul singer and songwriter, was renowned for her remarkable vocal range and mastery of the whistle register. She initially sang lead vocals for various artists and later became a member of the psychedelic soul band Rotary Connection. Riperton gained fame with her chart-topping single “Lovin’ You” in 1975. Despite battling breast cancer from 1976 onwards, she continued to create music and perform, also becoming an advocate for the American Cancer Society. In recognition of her bravery, Riperton was honored with the Courage Award in 1978. Tragically, she passed away in 1979 at the age of 31.
