Elliot See Jr. was a highly accomplished American engineer, naval aviator, test pilot, and NASA astronaut. He began his engineering career at General Electric after graduating from the United States Merchant Marine Academy. See served as a naval aviator during the Korean War, flying fighter planes. He later returned to GE as a flight test engineer and experimental test pilot, specializing in flying the newest jet aircraft. See was chosen as an astronaut by NASA in 1962 and tragically lost his life in a NASA jet crash while training for his first space mission.
