Karl Liebknecht was a prominent German socialist and anti-militarist known for his role in the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD). He was expelled for opposing the political truce in World War I and played a key role in the Spartacist League and the founding of the Communist Party of Germany (KPD). Liebknecht was imprisoned twice for his anti-militarism activities and was killed in 1919 during the failed Spartacist uprising.
