Charles Moss Duke Jr. is a former American astronaut, United States Air Force officer, and test pilot. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy, completed advanced flight training on the F-86 Sabre, and served as a fighter pilot in West Germany. Duke joined NASA’s astronaut group in 1966 and was involved in several Apollo missions. He served as the Lunar Module pilot on Apollo 16. After retiring from NASA, Duke entered the Air Force Reserve and achieved the rank of brigadier general before retiring in 1986.
