Colonel David Hackworth was a decorated United States Army officer and esteemed journalist who served with distinction in the Korean War and Vietnam War. He led the Tiger Force unit in South Vietnam and was recognized as the youngest US colonel in Vietnam. General Creighton Abrams commended him as the finest battalion commander he had encountered. Although there was controversy over unauthorized decorations, an audit ultimately absolved Hackworth of any misconduct, attributing the matter to an administrative error within the US Army.
