Ellison Onizuka was an American astronaut and engineer who flew into space on the Space Shuttle Discovery for mission STS-51-C. Sadly, he lost his life in the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster during mission STS-51-L. Onizuka was the first Asian American and the first person of Japanese origin to travel to space, making significant contributions to aerospace engineering and space exploration throughout his career.
