Brian Mulroney, a Canadian lawyer, businessman, and politician, served as the 18th prime minister of Canada from 1984 to 1993. He gained recognition as a labour lawyer in Montreal and later became president of the Iron Ore Company of Canada. Mulroney successfully led the Progressive Conservatives to two majority government wins in 1984 and 1988. During his time in office, he implemented significant economic changes, including the Canada–United States Free Trade Agreement, the introduction of the goods and services tax (GST), and the privatization of Crown corporations. Mulroney also made efforts towards constitutional reform through the Meech Lake and Charlottetown Accords. Despite his achievements, Mulroney’s legacy is debated due to controversies surrounding issues such as the GST, Quebec separatism, and allegations of corruption in the Airbus affair.
