Éamon de Valera was an influential Irish statesman and political leader known for his roles in key events in Irish history. He played a prominent part in the 1916 Easter Rising, the War of Independence, and the establishment of the 1937 Constitution of Ireland. De Valera founded the political party Fianna Fáil and served as Taoiseach three times, as well as holding the office of President of Ireland for two terms. His political beliefs evolved from militant republicanism to conservatism over time.
