Gene Pitney was a highly successful American singer, songwriter, and musician who charted numerous hit singles in both the United States and the United Kingdom. He had 16 top-40 hits in the US and 22 in the UK, with several reaching the top ten. Some of his popular songs include “Town Without Pity”, “(The Man Who Shot) Liberty Valance”, “Twenty Four Hours from Tulsa”, “I’m Gonna Be Strong”, “It Hurts to Be in Love”, and “Something’s Gotten Hold of My Heart”. Pitney also wrote hits for other artists such as Bobby Vee, Ricky Nelson, and the Crystals. In 2002, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in recognition of his contributions to music.
