P. V. Narasimha Rao, an Indian lawyer, statesman, and politician, served as the prime minister of India from 1991 to 1996. He is renowned for implementing liberal economic reforms that helped steer the country out of bankruptcy during the 1991 economic crisis. His policies were carried forward by subsequent prime ministers, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Manmohan Singh. Rao held several significant positions within the Indian government before assuming the role of prime minister. In recognition of his contributions, he was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna in 2024.
