Leila Khaled is a former Palestinian militant and ex-member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP). She made headlines for being the first woman to carry out an airplane hijacking during the TWA Flight 840 incident in 1969 and one of the four simultaneous Dawson’s Field hijackings in 1970. Khaled was part of the Black September campaign in Jordan. After being imprisoned, she was eventually released in a prisoner exchange for civilian hostages held by other PFLP members.
