Harnack was committed to her scholarly pursuits and furthered her studies at renowned German universities while working on her doctoral thesis. In response to the increasing influence of Nazism, she and her husband, Arvid, opposed the regime by forming an underground resistance group called “the Circle.” Over time, their anti-fascist activities developed into a clandestine network that cooperated with Soviet intelligence.
