Ron Kovic is an American anti-war activist and author who served as a United States Marine Corps sergeant in the Vietnam War. He was wounded and paralyzed during his service. His memoir “Born on the Fourth of July” was made into a film starring Tom Cruise and directed by Oliver Stone. Kovic received the Golden Globe Award for Best Screenplay in 1990, coinciding with the anniversary of his injury, and was nominated for an Academy Award for his writing.
