Jerry Falwell Sr. was a prominent American Baptist pastor, televangelist, and conservative activist known for founding the Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg, Virginia. He also established Lynchburg Christian Academy (now Liberty Christian Academy) in 1967 and founded Liberty University in 1971. Falwell was a co-founder of the Moral Majority in 1979, a political organization that aimed to mobilize conservative Christians and influence public policy in the United States.
