Inês de Castro’s professional life was marked by her role as a noblewoman and courtier at the Portuguese royal court. She is best known for her relationship with Prince Pedro, later King Pedro I of Portugal, which was forbidden by King Afonso IV. Despite the challenges and tragic circumstances surrounding her relationship, Inês held a prominent position at court and was eventually posthumously recognized as Pedro’s wife. Her murder at the orders of King Afonso led to Pedro’s bloody revenge and the enduring legend of her coronation after her exhumation.
