Madame de Pompadour served as King Louis XV’s chief mistress from 1745 to 1751, and continued to hold influence at court until her passing. She effectively managed the king’s agenda, provided counsel, acquired noble titles, and cultivated a network of allies. Pompadour was also appointed as the thirteenth lady-in-waiting to the queen, a prestigious role. Known for her patronage of architecture and decorative arts, particularly porcelain, she supported Enlightenment thinkers such as Voltaire. Despite facing criticism, historians admire her for her contributions to the arts and French culture.
