Robert Guiscard, a Norman adventurer, gained fame for conquering southern Italy and Sicily in the 11th century. He inherited the County of Apulia and Calabria in 1057, later becoming Duke of Apulia and Calabria and Lord of Sicily in 1059. Known as “the Resourceful,” his cunning and strategic abilities played a key role in his military and political triumphs.
