She began her career at the Gleason Works in Rochester, New York and went on to establish herself as a successful figure in finance and construction. In 1914, Kate Gleason became the first woman to join the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Today, her legacy lives on through the Kate Gleason College of Engineering at the Rochester Institute of Technology.
