Zoilamérica Ortega Murillo is a consultant for Comunidad Casabierta, an LGBTI rights organization in Costa Rica. She also served as a former member of the National Assembly of Nicaragua. Zoilamérica gained international attention in 1998 when she accused her stepfather, Daniel Ortega, of sexually abusing her as a child. From her exile in Costa Rica, she continues to be a vocal critic of her stepfather and has condemned him during the 2021 Nicaraguan general election. The 2019 documentary film “Exiliada” focuses on her experiences and allegations of abuse.
