Tokugawa Ieyasu was a key figure in Japanese history, known as the founder and first shōgun of the Tokugawa shogunate. He played a vital role in Japan’s unification, working alongside Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Rising from a minor daimyo, Ieyasu strategically formed alliances with powerful figures and eventually took control after the Battle of Sekigahara. As shōgun, he established the bakuhan system to oversee the daimyo and samurai, shaping Japan’s governance until the Meiji Restoration.
