James Carothers Garrison served as the District Attorney of Orleans Parish, Louisiana, from 1962 to 1973. He was a member of the Democratic Party and became well-known for his investigations into the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Garrison prosecuted New Orleans businessman Clay Shaw in 1969, but Shaw was acquitted. Garrison also worked as a state appellate court judge. He authored three published books, one of which was used as a key source for the film JFK. In the movie, Garrison was portrayed by Kevin Costner and made a cameo appearance as Earl Warren.
