George Elmer Pataki is an American politician who served as the 53rd Governor of New York from 1995 to 2006. Prior to his governorship, he was involved in the State Legislature from 1985 to 1994 and served as the Mayor of Peekskill from 1981 to 1984. Pataki is known for being the third Republican to win New York’s governorship since 1923. During his term, he implemented new health care programs, managed the state’s recovery efforts post-9/11, and successfully raised the state’s credit rating three times.
