Samuel Chase was a prominent figure in the founding of the United States, known for signing the Declaration of Independence and serving as an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court. He had a successful legal career in Annapolis, Maryland, and held various positions in both legal and political spheres, such as the Continental Congress and the Maryland General Assembly. Appointed to the Supreme Court by President George Washington, Chase faced impeachment in 1804 over accusations of political bias in his judicial decisions. Despite the impeachment proceedings, Chase was ultimately acquitted and remained on the Supreme Court until his passing in 1811.
