Harry Wu was a Chinese-American human rights activist who gained recognition for exposing human rights abuses in China. After spending 19 years in Chinese labor camps, he became a U.S. citizen. In 1992, he established the Laogai Research Foundation to raise awareness about China’s forced labor camps. Through his advocacy and research, Wu uncovered the harsh realities of the Chinese penal system, highlighting issues such as political imprisonment, forced labor, and lack of due process in China.
