Liu Xiaobo was a renowned Chinese literary critic, human rights activist, philosopher, and Nobel Peace Prize laureate. He was known for his advocacy of political reforms and opposition to one-party rule in China. Liu gained recognition in literary circles during the 1980s and held visiting scholar positions at international universities. Despite facing numerous arrests and imprisonments for his activism, including involvement in the Tiananmen Square protests, he remained a prominent dissident. Liu served as the president of the Independent Chinese PEN Center and was the editor of Democratic China magazine. He was posthumously awarded the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize for his non-violent promotion of fundamental human rights in China.
