Jaime Ramón Lusinchi was the president of Venezuela from 1984 to 1989. His presidency was marked by significant economic challenges such as an economic crisis, growth of external debt, populist policies, currency depreciation, inflation, and corruption. Despite facing corruption allegations after his term, Lusinchi maintained popularity during his presidency. He was succeeded by fellow Acción Democrática party member, Carlos Andrés Pérez.
