Lev Ivanovich Yashin, a Soviet professional footballer, is widely recognized as the greatest goalkeeper in history. He transformed the role by leading the defense, intercepting crosses, and challenging attackers. Yashin’s standout performances at the 1958 World Cup captured global attention, earning him nicknames such as the “Black Spider.” Throughout his career, he participated in four World Cups, saving more than 150 penalty kicks and securing numerous awards, including the prestigious Ballon d’Or in 1963. Yashin’s remarkable achievements led him to be hailed as the top goalkeeper of the 20th century by various institutions.
