Aleksey Andreevich Tupolev was a renowned aircraft designer from the Soviet Union and Russia. He played a key role in the development of the first supersonic passenger jet, the Tupolev Tu-144. Tupolev also contributed to the design of the Buran space shuttle and the long-range heavy bomber Tu-2000. Throughout his career at the Tupolev Design Bureau, Tupolev held various positions before becoming the chief designer in 1963 and later the general designer in 1973. His innovative contributions to aviation engineering have had a lasting impact on the industry.
