Sir Walter Baldwin Spencer was a renowned evolutionary biologist, anthropologist, and ethnologist of British-Australian descent. Spencer played a pivotal role in establishing the study of zoology at the University of Melbourne and held the position of Emeritus Professor until his passing. His collaboration with Frank Gillen was highly esteemed within academic circles. Spencer’s accomplishments earned him the prestigious title of Fellow of the Royal Society in 1900, and he was later knighted in 1916.
