Alexander Melamid is a Russian-born Conceptualist and performance artist known for his collaborations with Vitaly Komar in the Russian Sots art movement. Together, they emigrated to New York City in 1977, creating works as “Komar and Melamid.” After parting ways in 2003, Melamid delved into hip-hop culture, leading to his first solo exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit. He currently works in Chelsea, NYC, focusing on new series such as “Heaven and Hell” and “The Art of Plumbing,” showcasing his ongoing exploration of diverse artistic themes.
