Satish Dhawan, an Indian mathematician and aerospace engineer, is widely recognized as the father of experimental fluid dynamics research in India. He made significant contributions to the study of turbulence and boundary layers, playing a crucial role in the advancement of the Indian space program. In 1972, Dhawan assumed the position of chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), succeeding M. G. K. Menon. The Satish Dhawan Space Centre, which serves as the second launch pad of ISRO, was dedicated in his honor. His remarkable achievements in the field are highly respected, and he is closely associated with A. P. J. Abdul Kalam.
