In 1972, Dhawan assumed the position of chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), succeeding M. G. K. Menon. The Satish Dhawan Space Centre, which serves as the second launch pad of ISRO, was dedicated in his honor. His remarkable achievements in the field are highly respected, and he is closely associated with A. P. J. Abdul Kalam.
