His directorial debut was “Cabin in the Sky” in 1943, leading to successful films such as “Meet Me in St. Louis,” “An American in Paris,” and “Gigi.” Minnelli had a notable career at MGM, winning an Academy Award for Best Director. Despite some commercial setbacks later on, he remained active in filmmaking until his passing in 1986.
