Mohammad Javad Zarif is an Iranian career diplomat and academic who has held various significant diplomatic and cabinet posts. He served as the foreign minister of Iran from 2013 to 2021, leading negotiations with the P5+1 countries that resulted in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action. Zarif has also been the Permanent Representative of Iran to the United Nations, a visiting professor at the School of International Relations and University of Tehran, and has held roles as an advisor and senior advisor to the Foreign Minister, among other positions.
