Donald Duart Maclean was a British diplomat who acted as a Soviet double agent and was a significant figure in the Cambridge Five spy ring. He was recruited by a Soviet agent during his time as a student and went on to work in various diplomatic positions in Paris, London, Washington, D.C., and Egypt. Maclean later became the head of the American Department in the Foreign Office. He defected to Moscow in 1951 and continued to work on British policy and relations between the Soviet Union and NATO until his passing in 1983.
