Marco Pantani, the renowned Italian road racing cyclist, was celebrated for his exceptional climbing abilities in the world of cycling. He was widely recognized as one of the greatest climbing specialists in the sport’s history, setting records for the fastest ascents up iconic Tour de France locations such as Mont Ventoux and Alpe d’Huez. Pantani achieved the rare feat of winning both the Tour de France and Giro d’Italia, making him the second to last rider to accomplish this double. Despite facing doping allegations, he never tested positive, but his expulsion from the 1999 Giro d’Italia due to irregular blood values led to a severe depression from which he tragically never recovered.
