Roy Acuff was a significant figure in American country music, known as the “King of Country Music.” He played a crucial role in transforming the genre from its early roots in string bands and “hoedowns” to a more singer-focused style, which contributed to its global popularity. Acuff rose to fame in the 1930s as the leader of the Smoky Mountain Boys and later became a prominent figure at the Grand Ole Opry. He co-founded Acuff-Rose Music, a prominent Nashville-based country music publishing company, and was the first living inductee into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
