Johann Nikolaus Harnoncourt was a renowned Austrian conductor celebrated for his historically informed performances. Primarily focusing on Baroque music, he later broadened his scope to encompass Classical and early Romantic pieces. In 1953, Harnoncourt established the period instrument ensemble Concentus Musicus Wien and played a pivotal part in the Early Music movement. Throughout his career, he conducted opera and concert productions, led symphony orchestras across the globe, and performed at prestigious venues and festivals. Additionally, Harnoncourt authored multiple books on performance history and musical aesthetics.
