Whitfield Diffie is a notable American cryptographer and mathematician known for his innovative contributions to public-key cryptography. He, alongside Martin Hellman and Ralph Merkle, introduced the groundbreaking Diffie-Hellman key exchange method in 1976, which transformed key distribution in cryptography. Diffie held the position of Sun Fellow during his time at Sun Microsystems and later became the Vice President for Information Security and Cryptography at the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. He has also been associated with Stanford University’s Center for International Security and Cooperation as a visiting and consulting scholar.
